Ethos

As a child I was charmed by images and felt naturally compelled to explore the uncertain, intuitive spaces between hand and eye. I see the the world as a magical place and want to express this, to communicate on universal terms through the simplest of elements - shape, tone, colour, texture, line.

Much of my work is about exploring the gaps. I’m interested in what can be read between the lines or found hidden in plain sight. I seek to explore the alchemy of art and audience - the suspension of disbelief that gives an animated creature life, or the quiet magic of a painting only made real by a viewer’s gaze. Picture books are a natural extension of this; an invitation to step over a threshold and experience some slight or magical shift in perception.

I’m inspired by artists and creators who relate and respond to the world with a sense of freedom and play.
